Crime Statistics

How Much $$$?
The town of Coventry in the year of 2004 spent over $170,000.00 on vandalism related acts.  Also, in 2000, the United States spent about $93,000,000.00 just on school related vandalism!  All of this money could be used to feed starving families and help those in need.  Our organization created bookmarks and bumper stickers to help our town with the growing problem of property destruction.  Within the first week we passed out these items, a citizen pulled out his bookmark with the police number and reported a vandal.  As you can see, our actions have made a difference.

What Could Coventry Buy with $170,000?
These are the individual things that our town could buy with $170,000.  The money that goes toward vandalism could go toward other items that benefit the community.  This wasted money is the affect of unresponsible, disrespectful vandals.
  • 4 new teachers
  • A new fire truck
  • New parks and ball fields
  • New playgrounds
  • Lots of new books for the library
  • Over 300 new computers!

Did You Know?
  • Rhode Island, the smallest state in the U.S.A. with only 1 million people has a higher per capita rate of vandalism than California, with a population of 35 million!  This could be the affect of many people living together in a tight area.
  • 42% of all teen arrests are for vandalism.
  • Studies show that adolescent girls who associate with vandals are much more likely to have a substance abuse problem, be physically abused, or get pregnant before the age of 18.
  • Only 1 in 5 (20%) acts of vandalism is actually reported to police. This makes vandals think that they can get away with  destroying people's property.
