2009 Violence-Free Pledge Drive & Rally- *R.I. Attorney-General Patrick Lynch speaks to ASFMS students about the importance of non-violence, and the negative consequences of violence on youth, by youth.

On Nov. 13th, S.A.V.E. sponsored a school-wide 2009 Violence-Free School Year Rally and Pledge Drive. Students were greeted with the "Hey, Hey!" song and tumbling ASFMS cheerleaders as they entered the gym. After a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem by 7th grader Lean Biers, Mr. Blanchette introduced the 2009 Violence-Free Pledge with an inspiring Power Point and explained why students should consider taking it. Catherine Morris talked about "My Commitment to Myself" and Sami Gobin spoke about "My Commitment to My Peers." S.A.V.E. president Megan Palmer to "Stand Up and Speak Out!" against bullying, cyber-bullying and other anti-social behavior that hurts kids and communities. Attorney General Lynch led ASFMS students in taking the Pledge. A 10-day contest was held challenging each Grade 6 - 8 team to get as close to 100% of their students to commit to doing their part for a violence-free school year. Any team that acheived 100% participation earned a team movie of their choice in the auditorium, pizza lunch, AND GOT TO THROW CREAM PIES IN THEIR TEAM TEACHERS FACES!

Final Results - Pegasus Team (7th) and Scorpius Team (7th) both achieved 100% participation. Congratulations! Schoolwide, student participation was a HUGE success with ASFMS attaining 90% participation from its 1300+ students!

Falcon Patrol
S.A.V.E. is in the process of setting up a "Falcon Patrol" to assist the staff at ASFMS.  Responsibilities will include maintaining a positive presence before and after school, at extra-curricular events like dances and home games, and highlighting positive student actions, like random acts of kindness & courtesy, as well as making administrators aware of any issues that require their immediate attention.

Bake Sale - S.A.V.E. held a Bake Sale during recent Parent-Teacher Conferences earning over $70.00 many thanks to Meg Palmer, Megan Lynch, Sami Gobin, Brittany Brown, Cat Morris, Marisa Fascio, and Jamie Trautman for organizing and manning the tables.

Snack Cart - We will be running a Snack Cart again this year during Girls & Boys Basketball home games and Wrestling home matches. Last year, S.A.V.E. earned over $1,000 in Snack Cart sales.
